Possession Planner – Scotland

SWGR have an exciting opportunity for an Possession Planner to join our Scotland delivery team . This role will lead in the delivery of Possession Planning and Safe System of work planning activities for various internal and external contracts that SWGR have nationally. In addition to possession planning, the role will also be expected to support the operational delivery team with  resource planning and management.


The role:

  • Lead in all aspects of the possession planning activities ensuring access requests are organised and prepared into possession plans for inputting into PPS in line with industry timescales.
  • Lead in the receipt of and development thereafter of the “T-5” plan or similar scheduling that maximises the safe and professional use of SWGRs resources
  • Preparation and attendance at Network Rail T-5 Week and T-10-day planning meetings
  • Ensure access opportunities are maximised via the EAS
  • Develop relationships and liaise with 3rd parties and NR to ensure worksites are appropriately deconflicted inside planning timescales
  • Identify and communicate interface risks and opportunities to the project team
  • Generating SWPs and ensuring packs are returned, audited and filed in accordance with 019
  • Using Railhub software to create Line blockages as required
  • Undertaking the role of responsible manager and authorising SWPs
  • Supporting isolation planner as required in the preparation of worksites which require isolations
  • Participate in daily, weekly, periodic and other meetings both internal and external including Review Meetings and ensure adequate preparation and follow-up is undertaken on issues arising or expected to arise
  • Play an active part in SWGR’s focus on developing the resource pool
  • Undertake 2nd Line on-call as part of an organised control function
  • Undertake site based duties as and when required

Knowledge, Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge and be able to apply principles of Railway Group Standards NR/L2/OHS/202 and NR/L2/OHS/019
  • Familiar with Possession planning timescales and processes
  • Be comfortable chairing internal planning meetings
  • Be able to create a system for defining track access requirements and inputting into PPS
  • Operational delivery experience desirable
  • Experienced and proficient in Microsoft applications (Word and Excel)
  • Essential to hold a full UK driving license
  • Knowledge and experience of being a Mentor and standout Role Model

Hours of work:

Monday until Thursday 9am-5pm then 9am until 3:45pm on Friday
