Health and Mental Wellbeing checks completed on the frontline

Protecting everyone

Making a change in the rail industry is about collaboration – working together for the good of everyone.

That’s why we are taking our approach to health and mental wellbeing seriously.

Our health, safety and mental wellbeing units have completed thousands of health checks on the frontline to not only SWGR colleagues, but our supply chain partners and our customers too.

Effectively managing fatigue

Fatigue is a huge contributor to accidents and incidents occurring in the rail industry. That’s why SWGR takes the fatigue management of all its colleagues very seriously.

We’ve put intense systems in place to make sure all who represent SWGR are looked after. From telematics reports for our fleet, through to safety audits before a shift starts, we are doing everything we can to make sure fatigue is not a factor in any part of our frontline colleagues’ working day.

Training to enhance behaviour and encourage leadership

Behaviour has a huge impact on safety in the rail sector. It’s why non-technical skills for all operatives is so important.

SWGR has invested in a Human Behavioural Academy, arming our frontline teams with the knowledge and skills to identify behaviours and act accordingly.

It’s one of the many ways in which we can lead from the frontline and promote leadership skills all the way through the business.

“We strive to work to the highest health and safety standards – continually improving how we operate to ensure everyone arrives home safely, every day.”

Mike Bennett, Head of HSQE
