Tynecastle Stadium Redevelopment

Tynecastle Stadium is undergoing a £12 million redevelopment scheme to construct a new main stand which will extend the stadium’s capacity to more than 20,000 fans.

As part of the project, SWGR supplied a supervisor and four engineers to carry out structural welding to 15 points making up the main stand truss.

The work was carried out collaboratively with the main contractor BSB Structural Ltd. Most of the welding works were undertaken at ground level, and some carried out up to five metres above the ground with the help of access scaffolding. Due to the size of the new stand, much of the project made use of crane lifting techniques.

Where the new truss joined the existing structure the welding team installed support brackets and once structural welds were completed four cover plates were welded to complete the truss.

In order to meet the deadline for the project’s completion, SWGR’s skilled operatives focused on developing a strong working relationship with BSB Structural Ltd. in order to accelerate the works as much as possible.

The new stand is scheduled to open in September. As well as seating it will include new offices, hospitality lounges, a new director’s suite and a roof terrace.
