Case studies
Garvel Clyde Ltd

When Garvel Clyde Ltd, who operate from a dry dock in Greenock, were contracted to undertake the refurbishment of Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries, they contacted SWGR to source tradesmen with specific competencies and experience within the marine industry. A positive relationship was built and SWGR reacted to their specific requirements as they arose.

The nature of the project involved on-going short-term repair contracts. Because SWGR are experienced in sourcing the best staff to fulfill temporary and short-term labour solutions, we could supply workers with not only the correct skill-set, but also key individuals who were mindful of the need for Garvel Clyde to ensure that it was achieving its targets and fulfilling contractual obligations with their client.

Contracted jobs included removing parts of a ferry’s superstructure to allow access to the main propulsion shafts, which were removed over a three week period. The ferry was then reconstructed and returned to service on time.

Clyde Garvel has since contacted SWGR to fulfill a similar contract for a sister ship.
